Waterless Toilet
Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT) through the College of Engineering and Technology has built a urine-diverting dry toilet (UDDT) at Gachororo School. This toilet doesn't use water and doesn't smell bad. Dr. James Messo, a Senior Lecturer at JKUAT, led the project. The toilet separates urine and faeces, which can be used as fertilizer. The project was funded by Africa-ai-Japan. Mr. Austin Otieno, a PhD student at JKUAT, is studying how the toilet's waste can be used as an energy source. JKUAT's acting Registrar, Dr. Patrick Mbindyo, thanked Gachororo Primary School for their support.
