Department of Computing

The JKUAT Computing Department formally started as the Institute of Computer Science and Information Technology (ICSIT) in 1998 when it admitted the first batch of BSc Computer Science students. ICSIT was itself an offshoot of the Department of Mathematics that previously offered service teaching in computing-related courses. ICSIT merged with the JKUAT IT Centre in 2009, with the former ICSIT becoming the Department of Computing. The Department currently offers undergraduate courses in Computer Science and Computer Technology and postgraduate courses in Software Engineering, Artificial Intelligence, Computer Systems, Human Centered Computing, and Information Technology. The Department continues to offer training that aims to help the country realize development visions. Our graduates are equipped with skills that enable them to work and engage in scholarship anywhere in the world. Students are exposed to practical-based training in a conducive environment that enables them to innovate, self-learn, and interact with faculty and peers.
Vision
To be a centre of excellence in computing education and research, producing graduates who drive technological innovation.
Mission
To provide quality training and research in computer science and related fields for national development.
