The JKUAT IT Department started its academic operations as JKUAT-MMS IT Centre in March 1996 as a partnership between JKUAT and MMS Nebraska USA. The centre was fully integrated into the university in 2004 and renamed JKUAT IT Centre, which later merged with ICSIT in May 2009 to form two departments - Information Technology and Computing. The department certifies that its students gain a wide enough knowledge and understanding of the subjects studied to perform proficiently in a computerized office environment and industry. With the introduction of courses dealing with GSM technology, 3D computer animation and others, the department holds true to its drive to bridge the gap between theory and practice and between training and work.
