The School of Open, Distance and e-Learning (SODeL) at Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT) has officially welcomed and oriented its third cohort of students for the 2026 academic year, marking another step in the school’s efforts to expand access to flexible and technology-enabled higher education.

The orientation programme provided newly admitted students with an opportunity to familiarize themselves with the University’s academic environment, learning systems and support services, while equipping them with the information and guidance necessary to begin their studies effectively.

As part of the orientation exercise, the new students interacted with faculty members, sought clarification on various aspects of their studies and gained a better understanding of the academic programmes, learning tools and key support resources available to them. The engagement also provided an opportunity for students to raise questions and receive guidance on navigating their academic journey at JKUAT.

Speaking during the exercise on September 26, 2026, Chair of the Department of Admission, Examinations and Records, Dr. Douglas Rosanna, welcomed the new students to JKUAT and encouraged them to take full advantage of the academic and support services available to enhance their learning experience.

“Our faculty are ready to answer your questions to enable you to experience a smooth and enriching learning journey. Do not hesitate to seek guidance whenever you need clarification or support throughout your studies,” said Dr. Rosanna.

LMS Administrator, Mr. George Mwangi, demonstrates to the new students how to utilise the University’s online learning tools.

He also implored the new students to make good use of the University’s learning and support systems, noting that these would enhance their learning experience and support their academic progress.

Leading the students through registration on the portal and other key activities, Learning Management System (LMS) Administrator, Mr. George Mwangi, guided the students on accessing and navigating the University’s digital learning and website platforms. He also advised them on the key steps to follow in accessing learning materials, submitting assignments and engaging with online learning activities.

Mr. Mwangi emphasised the importance of registering their official University email accounts, noting that the accounts would facilitate communication with the University and provide access to essential academic information, digital learning resources and other online services.

The September intake adds to SODeL’s growing student community and reflects the School’s continued focus on providing flexible learning opportunities that enable students to pursue higher education alongside their professional and personal commitments.
